Portrait Session FAQ – Tokyo & Shonan

- What’s included in the session fee?

Each plan includes the photography session, post-editing, and delivery of high-resolution, print-ready JPG files through a private online link. The session fee does not include travel expenses to the photoshoot location or any park or facility entrance fees required for shooting. These costs, if applicable, are the client’s responsibility and will be communicated in advance. Props, outfit rentals, or professional hair and makeup services are not included, but I can offer guidance or referrals upon request.

- How to book a session?

You can book your portrait session directly through the "Book Now" button on the [Portraits in Japan] page or by using the "Contact form."  Once I receive your inquiry, I’ll confirm availability, location preferences, and session details via email.  A 50% retainer is required to secure your date, with the balance due on the day of your session.  I usually reply within 24 hours; however, during high season, my response might be delayed.  If you don't hear from me within 48 hours, please kindly send me a message.  I appreciate your patience.

- How early should I book a portrait session?

Advance reservations are highly appreciated. Many gardens and cultural sites in Tokyo and Shonan require prior permission for photography. Booking early allows us to secure the necessary permits, ensuring a smooth experience.

- How many people can be in the portrait session?

Sessions are designed for individuals, couples, and small groups of up to 6 participants. For an additional fee, arrangements can be made for groups of up to 10. Unfortunately, due to park regulations in Japan, we are unable to accommodate larger groups.

- Do you charge extra for a portrait session with multiple locations?

The Kokoro plan includes two locations.  For other plans, an additional location can be arranged for an extra fee, depending on the travel distance.
If you’re unsure which locations pair well, we can discuss all these details over email before you decide to book a session with us.  If a taxi is needed for transportation, the costs will be the client’s responsibility.  Please note that travel time will be included in the session duration.

- Can you do street photography?

All portrait sessions are held at designated locations to provide the best settings and guest experience. While street photography is not currently offered as a primary option, it can be arranged upon request.  Please send us a message to discuss this further.

- What is your travel fee to Tokyo?

For portrait sessions in central Tokyo, including Shinagawa-ku, Minato-ku, Chiyoda-ku, and Chuo-ku, an additional travel fee of ¥5,000 applies. The travel fee for Koto-ku, Taito-ku, Shibuya-ku, and Shinjuku-ku is ¥6,000.

- What if it rains?

If a typhoon or severe weather warning is issued on the day of your session, you will be eligible for a full refund.
For light rain, we can still proceed with the shoot if you wish. On gentle rainy days, parks and city streets are often quieter, creating a uniquely calm and romantic atmosphere. Please bring clear umbrellas, which photograph beautifully and help maintain a natural look.
If it’s clear that another day during your stay will offer better weather, I’m happy to reschedule your session at no additional cost, as long as my schedule allows.
If you prefer not to shoot in light rain and rescheduling isn’t possible during your stay, a 50% refund will be issued to cover preparation and the time reserved for your session.
Cancellations for personal reasons unrelated to weather are non-refundable within 48 hours of the scheduled session.

- How long does it take to receive the photos?

Edited photos are usually delivered within 10–14 days after the session. You’ll receive a private online gallery link where you can view, download, and share your images easily. Expedited delivery may be available upon request, at an additional cost.

- What should we wear?

Neutral or pastel tones photograph beautifully in both urban and seaside settings. Avoid large logos or overly bold prints that may distract from the focus—your connection and expression.
Coordinate outfits as a group without matching exactly; think complementary colors and layers. I’ll be happy to provide personalized wardrobe suggestions once your portrait sesion is confirmed.

- Can the photographer accompany us during our outing as an interpreter?

Yes, this can be arranged as a special add-on for a relaxed, documentary-style experience. I can join you for a portion of your outing to capture candid moments as you explore, while also assisting with light interpretation when needed.
This option works beautifully for travelers who want natural, story-like photos that reflect the atmosphere of their day in Japan.
An additional fee of ¥5,000–¥8,000 per hour applies, depending on itinerary and travel time.

- Can I extend the session time on the day?

If my schedule allows, you can extend your session in 30-minute increments (¥22,000 per 30 minutes). The extension fee can be settled on the day of the shoot.

- What is your cancellation policy?

You may reschedule your session once at no additional cost if you notify me at least 48 hours in advance, subject to availability.

  • 7 days or more before the session: Full refund

  • 3–6 days before the session: 50% refund

  • Within 48 hours: Non-refundable
If you do not show up for your session without prior notice, the session fee is non-refundable.
I understand that unexpected situations can arise during travel. If you experience illness, travel delays, or other serious circumstances, please contact me as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to find a fair solution.
